Introducing…

Hello again! We (Niels and Miriam Zegers) live in the south-west of the Netherlands, close to the Belgian border in a small town, wherefrom we can take lovely walks with our 3 “doezen”.

I (Miriam) did my best to translate our “Doezenhistory” in English for you:

The first…
After some research on which dogbreed would fit us best, we decided we also wanted a Schapendoes (like my parents in law). We got ourselves on a list with a breeder for a puppy, but sadly the mom to be didn’t get puppies, we got a phonecall to tell us that at that very same time there was a litter in Belgium with the same dad and that there still were 2 males available. It was a quick shift action for us, but we decided to contact the breeder and visit the litter. We got pictures beforehand and thought we fell for one of the boys, big surprise when we got there and met them in the live version.. it turned out to be the other fellow from the pictures… This was the first time we met Jari.. 3 weeks later we drove back to pick him up and since that day in 2010 he never left our side!

The second…
We quickly realised (from the playtime Jari had with the does of my parents in law) that it would be nice for Jari to have a playmate. We discussed this at the birthdayparty of Jari and his brother and sisters and the idea came up to get Jari approved for breeding so that we can have a son or daughter of him in our home. Sadly the first mating Jari got asked for didn’t work out.. and by that time I had developed a small wish to have a black Schapendoes and it so happened that around that time a litter of 9 puppies, with 4 black boys was born in Friesland in the Netherlands. I contacted the breeder to see if it was possible to have one of the males, and after checking at my work if I could have some time off and that was quickly arranged too. A small 8 weeks later Joey (Ridder Joey Mei de Noardewyn) entered our home.

Number 3…
During the years both Jari and Joey had several litters in the Netherlands and abroad, seeing the puppies and even more seeing my boys made me realize that a great combination would be a combination of our 2 boys.. Jari because of his relaxed character and his will to please & learn and his herding instinct and Joey because of his build and coat. But 2 males is a hard combination to make.. so from that point on I had the wish to have my own litter of Schapendoes of my 2 boys, but a girl was needed to be the mom of the litter. Each time one of the boys was asked for a mating I checked to see if I could make the combination with a puppy of that litter to the other boy.. And then there was Klinga, (Lightschaps Tulipa Showwinner), a lovely Swedish girl, great coat, temperament and character. Her breeder asked Joey to be the male for Klinga, she helped me look in to the lines behind Klinga so I could see if a puppy of Joey and Klinga would fit Jari (pedigreewise and possible healthissues). Joey and Klinga had a succesfull mating on my birthday and a little over 2 months later a lovely litter of 7 was born, with 4 girls! So for me it was off to Sweden 4 weeks after their birth to see if one of the girls could steal my heart.. and they all did! How hard to make a decision on the spot! But I did and until this day haven’t regretted my choice for a little black girl, a real girly girl.. Jikke (Lightschaps Magic Lavender). So at the end of November 2016 Jikke made her entry in to our home and hearts and she quickly had both the boys convinced she was a great addition to the family!

With Jikke (and Jari) my dream came true to breed my own litter of Schapendoes puppy’s!

Number 4…
With breeding your own litter comes the wish offcourse to keep one yourself! And since this combination was special to me, I really wanted to keep one myself! And so number 4 was born in our own home! She was the first to be born and as the weeks progressed she walked around the house as if it was hers already and if she belonged here.. Furthermore her character and build fitted the rest of the gang, so the decision was made to name the first born of our Kennel: Jari Jira van de Doezendrecht, call name Jira! Up to this point she has a lovely character (inherreted from dad Jari) but she can also be spicy from time to time just like her mom. She has a lot of confidence and adjusts to new situations quite well and has already shown interest in sheeps 😉 We will take her to a flock of sheep this spring!
May we introduce to you:
